The community of Little Balboa is on a small strip of land that is part of Balboa Island. The two are connected on Park Avenue by a two lane bridge crossing the Grand Canal. While Balboa Island is 1 ¾ miles in circumference, Little Balboa Island is only ¾ of a mile.

The two neighborhoods combined have over 1,450 homes and share the shopping district on Marine Avenue. Residents participate in a Business Association that promotes lifestyle quality and fun events for locals and tourists. Little Balboa Island is known for its tucked away homes and close-knit community. Holidays are celebrated enthusiastically and residents see Christmas, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, and the Fourth of July as opportunities to show their creative skills.

There are many highly ranked facilities provided by The Newport Mesa Unified School District including Abraham Lincoln Elementary, Corona Del Mar High School, and Mariners Elementary. Newport Beach also has several private schools like Harbor Day School, Carden Hall, Sage Hill, St. Andrews Presbyterian Preschool, and Newport Christian School.

Residents of Little Balboa go to the bigger island for more things to do; Balboa Island is famous for desserts like the Frozen Banana and Balboa Bar. There are some amazing restaurants like Wilma’s Patio Restaurant, Ciao Italian Restaurant, and Amelia’s Balboa Island. And Newport Beach has many shopping centers like Fashion Island which features stores like Whole Foods Market, Bloomingdales, and Brooks Brothers.

For the outdoors enthusiast the water provides opportunities for many activities including sport fishing, whale watching, standup paddle boarding, and Sea Doo riding. Upper Newport Bay is a coastal wetland where visitors can see many species of birds or go jogging, bicycling, hiking, and kayaking. There are 1,000 acres of open space in the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve and Ecological Reserve.
